Synopsis
‘Obverse’ is a narrative feature about Susan, a soon-to-be-divorced mother who accidently discovers how to jump to a parallel reality in an unconventional way. She falls in love with her alternate self's husband, George, and almost loses herself because of it.
Terms
This show will be union under the SAG/AFTRA Ultra Low Budget contract. We are self funding and pay is deferred scale rate. Filming will begin in Q4 of 2024 in Ventura, CA mostly on the weekends. Travel cost and meals will be provided.
Characters
A politely mannered woman who’s a proud therapist, helping her patients and family navigate their thoughts and feelings even though she has trouble doing so herself. Between her double mastectomy and crumbled marriage to Colin, her sense of self is shaken until she meets George.
Susan
A gruff, a man's man who’s love for Kristen (Susan's alternate self) shows he’s more emotionally intelligent than his gruff exterior may portray. Messy, a self-starter who can physically fix anything, he has a hard time when he can't fix in his broken marriage. He has a long fuse, but once it's out he can be a brute.
George
The half brother of Susan. He is too smart for his own good which gives him an arrogance that can be off putting. However, he is fiercely loyal to Susan and Jefferson and know Jefferson looks up to him and takes that responsibility seriously.
Chris
Casted! Ben Seaward
14 year-old introvert who is advanced for his age, a big sneakerhead and only into 90s hip-hop. His emotional intelligence is like any typical kid his age. He loves his Mom even though he doesn't understand why she wanted to breakup their family and admires Chris greatly.
Jefferson
Karen is a headstrong small town restaurant owner and chef. She knows what she wants and usually goes for it. Has a past with Kristen, Susan’s alternate self.
Karen
Longtime patient of Susan who is weirdly unsure of himself and questions everyone's motives. He looks put together and takes pride in his appearance and how he outwardly presents himself. As an architect, he runs a successful firm so his confidence outside of Susan's office is palpable and in direct conflict with how he feels internally. He often pauses, stuck in a thought for too long, while speaking.
Brian
Dr. Miller is a longtime psychiatrist and a pseudo mentor to Susan. He is always calm and collected and wears the wisdom of experience and time on his face. Even in in the case of aggression, because of his training and experience, he can usually can keep his cool even if he is pushed too far by a patient.
Dr. Miller
Newer patient of Susan who has a strong sense of self and worth. However, she's incapable of evolving and goes to therapy because she knows she needs to talk every thought she has out or else she’ll be unpleasant to be around.
Tera
A charming nerd. He clearly is someone who will play video games until all hours of the night, but not at the expense of a social life. He has had his fair share of heartbreak and is usually the one being broken up with, but isn't down because of it.
